Chapter 5 - The Mediation TableFriday morning arrived with grey rain clouds hanging low over downtown Atlanta.

The mediation hearing took place on the fourteenth floor of the SunTrust Tower, inside the glass conference room of Sterling & Associates.
Simone sat across the long polished conference table, flanked by her aggressive divorce attorney, Marcus Sterling, and her mother, Eleanor. Simone wore an immaculate cream-colored suit, diamond earrings, and a cold, victorious smirk.
I sat at the other end of the table in a tailored charcoal suit, my hands folded calmly over my briefcase. Beside me sat Arthur Vance, looking like an ancient, weathered judge in his dark suit.
Marcus Sterling cleared his throat, tapping a stack of legal papers against the mahogany table.
âMr. Wynn,â Sterling began in a patronizing tone. âMy client, Simone Wynn, is prepared to offer a swift resolution to this marriage dissolution. In exchange for waiving spousal support, Mrs. Wynn requires full ownership of the townhouse, fifty percent equity in Wynn Construction, and a one-hundred-thousand-dollar lump sum settlement.â
Simone leaned back in her leather chair, crossing her legs, looking at me like I was a defeated debtor begging for mercy.
âYou have until five o'clock to sign, Caleb,â Simone said coldly. âOtherwise, we freeze your companyâs payroll accounts on Monday morning.â
Arthur Vance adjusted his reading glasses, pulled a blue folder from his briefcase, and slid the first document slowly across the glass table.

âMrs. Wynn,â Arthur spoke, his voice smooth as velvet. âBefore we discuss your demands, let us review the financial realities of this marriage.â
Simone picked up the document, her smile tightening as her eyes scanned the header: NOTICE OF PROBATE FILING â AMOS WYNN LEGACY TRUST.
