Chapter 9 - The New Beginning in Maine

Three weeks later, on a crisp autumn morning, our daughter was born at Maine Medical Center in Portland.

We named her Grace.

She was born healthy and strong at seven pounds, six ounces, with a thick crown of dark brown hair and her father’s piercing, intelligent gray eyes. When the nurse placed her warm, swaddled body against my chest, tears of profound, overwhelming peace streamed down my face.

Ethan sat on the edge of the hospital bed, his large hand gently cradling Grace’s tiny head. He looked down at our daughter with a reverence that transformed his entire soul.

"She’s beautiful, Bella," Ethan whispered, kissing my forehead before kissing Grace’s soft cheek. "She’s our entire world."

True to his word, Ethan completely dismantled his ties to the New York underworld.

Over the next six months, he restructured Romano Global into a fully legitimate international maritime shipping and renewable logistics conglomerate, handing over all security divisions to independent federal compliance monitors.

We left Manhattan behind forever.

We purchased a magnificent, sun-drenched coastal estate situated on fifty private acres in Camden, Maine, overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The property was filled with towering pine trees, rolling wildflower meadows, and a historic lighthouse that guided ships safely home.

In the center of the nursery stood the pale oak crib from the boutique on Madison Avenue—now surrounded by warm sunshine, soft plush toys, and the gentle sound of ocean waves.
