Chapter 10 - The Lighthouse by the Sea

Two years later, golden late-afternoon sunlight bathed the rocky coastline of our Maine estate.

The ocean breeze rustled through the blooming hydrangeas and sea grass. On the wide green lawn, two-year-old Grace was running with joyful, uninhibited laughter, chasing a playful Newfoundland puppy across the grass in her little yellow sundress.

Ethan walked out onto the stone patio carrying a pitcher of fresh lemonade and two glasses, setting them on the teak table before wrapping his arms around my waist from behind.

He rested his chin on my shoulder, his warm hands holding mine as we watched our daughter play.

"She’s trying to catch the butterflies again," Ethan smiled, his chest vibrating against my back.

"She gets her stubborn determination from her father," I laughed softly, leaning my head back against his chest.

Grace came running up the patio steps, giggling as she presented a handful of wild purple asters she had picked from the meadow, proudly handing one to Ethan and one to me.

"For Daddy! For Mommy!" Grace beamed, throwing her little arms around our legs.

Ethan knelt down on the stone terrace, scooping Grace into his arms and lifting her high into the air as she squealed with pure, radiant delight.

I looked at my husband and daughter laughing together against the backdrop of the deep blue sea and the glowing white lighthouse.

We had survived the darkness of the underworld, outmaneuvered the predators who sought to destroy us, and broken the chains of violence forever. From the ashes of danger, we had built an empire of peace, truth, and an unbreakable love that would illuminate our lives for generations to come.

As the sun dipped below the horizon, painting the sky in breathtaking shades of blush pink and gold, I knew our family was finally, truly home.
