Chapter 9 - The Wrath of DeLuca

The atmosphere inside the dark textile mill instantly transformed from a hostage crisis into a localized war zone. Adrian DeLuca moved with terrifying speed and absolute precision. Before Viktor Vance’s thug could even tighten his grip around Clara’s throat, Adrian raised his rifle and fired a single, flawless shot that blew the knife out of the assailant’s hand without grazing a hair on Clara’s head. With a roar of animal rage, Adrian lunged across the wooden table, grabbing the thug by the collar and slamming him face-first into the concrete floor with bone-crushing force. The remaining syndicate enforcers scrambled in absolute terror, trying to flee toward the broken windows, but Adrian’s backup tactical team poured into the mill from every angle, cutting off all escape routes. Within ninety seconds, the ambush was completely neutralized. The silence that followed was heavy, broken only by the pattering of rain leaking through the damaged roof and the groans of captured mercenaries. Adrian dropped his rifle to the floor, not caring about the weapons or the prisoners. His eyes locked entirely on Clara, who was standing frozen by the cutting table, trembling slightly from the adrenaline crash. He crossed the cavernous room in two long strides, grabbing her face with both hands, checking her over frantically for any sign of injury. "Are you hurt? Did they touch you?" he demanded, his voice cracking with a raw, desperate panic that he had never shown in his life. Clara looked up into his fierce, soot-stained face, seeing the profound terror of losing her reflected in his grey eyes. She reached up, placing her hand gently over his knuckles. "I'm okay, Adrian. I'm completely safe." Letting out a long, shuddering breath of pure relief, Adrian pulled her into his arms, crushing her against his chest so tightly she could feel the frantic pounding of his heart. "I told you I would burn his empire to ash," Adrian whispered fiercely against her hair. "And I meant every word." Within the hour, federal authorities and state police arrived to haul away the captured syndicate members, while Viktor Vance himself was cornered and arrested at a private airstrip trying to flee the state. The war was over before it could truly begin, and Adrian’s absolute dominance over Bellweather was cemented forever.
