Chapter 10 - Reconstruction

Two weeks after the warehouse raid, the city of Bellweather was bathed in the warm, golden light of early autumn. The criminal syndicate that had plagued the river district for decades had been dismantled down to its last concrete foundation, with Viktor Vance and his inner circle facing multiple life sentences in federal custody. Bennett Bridal continued to thrive, but Clara’s life was expanding in ways she had never dared to imagine. True to his word, Adrian had signed over the historic textile mill entirely into Clara’s name, transforming it into The Clara Bennett Design Academy & Atelier—a sprawling, state-of-the-art fashion house and restoration studio that celebrated craftsmanship and beauty in all sizes. On a bright Saturday morning, Clara stood on the second-floor balcony of the newly renovated mill, looking down at the sunlit showroom floor where dozens of apprentices were cutting fabrics, sketching patterns, and laughing. Footsteps echoed softly behind her on the polished oak stairs. She didn't need to turn around to know who it was. Adrian stepped up beside her, wearing a comfortable charcoal sweater instead of his usual business suit, holding two cups of black coffee. He handed one to her, his fingers brushing hers with a familiar, electrifying warmth. "The board of directors approved the final community revitalization grant this morning," Adrian noted quietly, taking a sip of his coffee. "The entire river district is officially debt-free and operating under legitimate municipal contracts." Clara smiled, leaning her shoulder against his arm as they looked out over the thriving studio below. "You really did it, didn't you? You turned a fortress of the underworld into a house of creation." "I had help," Adrian replied, turning his head to look down at her with a tender, unwavering gaze. "You taught me that building something lasting requires patience, care, and refusing to throw away what’s broken." Clara’s cheeks warmed, her brown eyes meeting his. "You know, for a terrifying mafia boss, you’re surprisingly sentimental, Mr. DeLuca." Adrian chuckled, setting his coffee cup down on the balcony railing. He reached into his coat pocket, pulling out a small, dark velvet box. The world around them seemed to instantly fade into absolute silence.
