Chapter 10 - A New Promise by the Water

The morning sun caught the gentle ripples of the Savannah River, turning the water into a sheet of liquid gold. It was a beautiful day for a wedding—small, intimate, and entirely genuine.

A simple wooden arbor covered in white roses stood on the edge of the private estate's lawn, the Spanish moss rustling softly in the coastal breeze. Only a few close friends, Mrs. Delaney from across the street, and the private legal team who had helped win their freedom stood in attendance.

Adrian stood under the arbor, looking incredibly handsome in a classic black tuxedo, his slate-gray eyes warm, clear, and fixed entirely on the woman walking down the grass path toward him.

Emma wore a simple, elegant white silk gown that caught the wind. She didn't carry a massive bouquet or wear an expensive veil. She carried only the absolute certainty that she was exactly where she belonged.

Holding her dress on either side were five-year-old Leo and Maya, their faces bright with dimples and laughter as they scattered white rose petals onto the grass. They weren't hiding anymore. Their laughter was loud, free, and completely unburdened by secrets.

When Emma reached the arbor, Adrian took both of her hands in his. His palms were warm, steady, and entirely protective.

"Five years ago, I gave you a ring because I wanted a partner to shield my empire," Adrian said, his voice deep, resonant, and carrying a soft emotion that made Emma's eyes well with tears. "But today, I give you my life because you are the only sanctuary I have ever known. I promise to protect you, to honor the quiet world you built, and to spend every single day proving that our love is real."

Emma smiled, a tear of pure, unadulterated happiness tracing a path down her cheek. "I promise to stay, Adrian. No more running. No more shadows."

He slid the emerald-cut diamond ring onto her finger, its icy brilliance catching the noon sun. He leaned down, his lips meeting hers in a deep, victorious kiss that sealed their new beginning.

The crowd erupted into cheerful applause, and the twins immediately ran up, throwing their small arms around their parents' legs. Adrian lifted them both into his massive arms, balancing them against his chest, while Emma pressed her side against his, her hand resting firmly over his heart.

The photographer adjusted the lens, capturing the definitive snapshot of their victory. It wasn't a picture-perfect lie under a corporate arch. It was a family portrait built on truth, protection, and an unbreakable love that had survived the dark and finally found the light.
