Chapter 6 - THE BASEMENT FLOORBOARD DISCOVERY
While cleaning the pantry one afternoon, I noticed that one of the floorboards under the shelving unit felt loose. Thinking it was a simple repair for Corey to handle, I pried it up, only to find a hidden metal box nestled in the insulation. I pulled it out and opened it, my hands shaking.
Inside weren't just personal photos; they were financial documents—mortgage deeds, high-interest loan agreements, and strange correspondence with local contractors involving large sums of money. It looked like a side business of fraud, a way to move money around that Walter and Lorraine were hiding from everyone, including the government. I took photos of every single document before sliding the box back into its hiding place.
