Chapter 5 - THE PRENATAL MONITOR WAR

The climax of the control struggle happened over a prenatal monitor. Lorraine bought a digital surveillance system for the baby's nursery that required an app installed on her phone to function. When I refused to install it, she spent an entire afternoon screaming at Corey, accusing me of "hiding something" and implying I was a bad mother.

Corey, exhausted by her badgering, eventually tried to install the app on my phone behind my back. I caught him in the act. The look on his face wasn't one of betrayal, but of pathetic, childlike fear—the fear of a man who would rather hurt his wife than disappoint his mother. That night, I realized I wasn't just fighting Lorraine; I was fighting a man who would always choose his mother’s comfort over my safety and my dignity.
