THE PRICE OF KINDNESS / Chapter 8 / 10

Chapter 8 - Cracks in the ArmorFollowing the restructuring of the hotel, Julian and Hannah spent even more time together. What began as a professional contract had transformed into a deep, undeniable love.

One evening, after a long day of meetings, a heavy rainstorm hit Chicago.

Hannah stood by the floor-to-ceiling windows of the penthouse, watching the rain streak down the glass. Julian walked up behind her, placing a warm fleece shawl over her shoulders.

"Thinking about the night we met?" Julian asked softly, resting his hands gently on her waist.

Hannah leaned back into his solid chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. "I was thinking about how foolish I was to give away my last twenty dollars."

Julian laughed softly, turning her around in his arms to face him. "That twenty dollars was the best investment anyone ever made in my life, Hannah. You bought my faith in humanity back."

He cupped her cheeks with his hands, his gray eyes searching hers with intense passion. "I love you, Hannah. Not as an employee, not as Lily's companion, but as the woman who completed my heart."

Hannah smiled, tears of happiness shining in her eyes. "I love you too, Julian. Since the moment you yelled at me under that umbrella."

Julian leaned in and kissed her—a deep, passionate kiss as the storm raged outside, sealing their unspoken promise.
