THE PRICE OF KINDNESS / Chapter 6 / 10

Chapter 6 - A Little Girl's SmileA month into Hannah’s employment, Julian hosted a high-profile corporate charity gala at the main estate. The city’s wealthiest investors, politicians, and hotel executives were in attendance.

Hannah wore an elegant black evening gown provided by Julian, her hair styled in a graceful updo. Standing beside Julian and Lily, she looked like she belonged at his side—a natural, radiant presence that captivated everyone in the room.

However, Preston Vale managed to crash the party using a fake press pass. He stepped onto the main stage during Julian’s keynote address, holding a microphone.

"Ladies and gentlemen!" Preston shouted, his voice echoing across the ballroom. "Mr. Caldwell preaches integrity, yet he hired a common, bankrupt waitress to live in his house and care for his daughter! Hannah Moore was fired from the Aurelia for insubordination and theft!"

Gasps rippled through the wealthy crowd. Guests began whispering, pointing at Hannah, whose face drained of color.

Julian stepped forward, his body radiating a terrifying, icy aura. "Preston, you have five seconds to leave my home before security removes you."

"I have proof!" Preston sneered, holding up forged financial documents. "She targeted you at the hotel! She knew who you were all along!"

Before Julian could speak, little Lily stepped out from behind her father’s suit jacket. She walked up to the microphone, her voice clear, sweet, and strong.

"Hannah didn't know Daddy was rich," Lily declared, her voice carrying through the quiet hall. "She helped him when he was wet and cold. She gave him her food money. She is the kindest person in the world, and you are mean!"

The entire ballroom burst into thunderous applause. Preston stood frozen, humiliated, as security guards tackled him to the floor and dragged him out of the mansion.
