Chapter 2 - The Mask Falls OffHannah spent the next forty-eight hours in her cramped apartment, staring at unpaid medical bills from her late mother’s cancer treatment. Losing her job at the Caldwell Aurelia felt like the final blow.

What Hannah didn't know was that the "drunk stranger" was Julian Caldwell—billionaire real estate mogul, single father, and owner of the entire Caldwell Hotel Group.
Julian had gone undercover at his flagship hotel to investigate rumors of systemic corruption, employee mistreatment, and financial embezzlement carried out by Preston Vale. He had dressed in rags, pretended to be intoxicated, and waited to see if anyone in his grand hotel possessed a shred of genuine humanity.
Out of fifty staff members, only Hannah Moore had stood up for a nameless stranger.
Sitting in his penthouse office overlooking the Chicago skyline, Julian looked at the file on his desk. On the cover was Hannah’s picture, along with her modest resume, her mother’s medical records, and her current financial status.
Beside Julian sat his six-year-old daughter, Lily, who was holding a worn teddy bear. Lily had been selective mute since her mother passed away three years prior, refusing to speak to nurses, tutors, or nannies.
"She gave you her last twenty dollars, Daddy?" Lily whispered softly, her sweet voice catching Julian off guard.
Julian smiled gently, pulling his daughter onto his lap. "Yes, sweetie. She lost everything just to keep a stranger warm."

"Can she come here?" Lily asked, looking at Hannah's picture with big, curious eyes. "She has kind eyes."
Julian closed the file, his jaw setting with firm resolve. "Yes, Lily. She's coming here tomorrow."
