Chapter 5 - The Medical Audit
The massive high-definition LED screens flanking the stage flickered.
Instead of the promotional hospital video showcasing Dr. Vaughn in the operating room, the screens illuminated with high-resolution forensic financial documents, internal hospital incident reports, and medical disciplinary files stamped with the seal of the New York State Department of Health.
A collective, stunned gasp rippled through the four hundred guests.
"Over the past three years," Ethan announced, his voice reverberating through the silent room, "Dr. Andrew Vaughn has falsified seventy-four clinical trial patient registries, diverted three million dollars in charitable pediatric heart grants into private offshore accounts in Belize, and performed unapproved experimental procedures on low-income patients without informed consent."
Senator Collins gasped, setting her glass down in horror. Several prominent hospital board trustees stood up in shock.
"That's a lie!" Andrew roared from the stage stairs, his face flushing crimson with sudden rage. "This is slander! Ethan Carter is fabricating documents to ruin my professional reputation!"
"The documents on screen were certified sixty minutes ago by the State Attorney General’s Special Prosecutions Bureau," Ethan replied calmly. "And the financial transfers were uncovered through an unredacted audit of your offshore shell company, Vaughn Medical Holdings."
Andrew lunged toward the stage podium, but two uniformed state troopers stepped out from the wings, blocking his path with unyielding authority.
"Furthermore," Ethan continued, his eyes locking onto Andrew with lethal precision, "Dr. Vaughn has used his administrative authority to terrorize, blackmail, and physically assault the vulnerable people in his personal life."

The entire ballroom erupted into deafening uproar.
