Chapter 5 - THE EXPULSION OF THE TRESSPASSERS
The deputy on the porch listened intently as I rattled off my property tax ID number, my digital deed registration, and the timestamped security logs proving forced unauthorized access. He turned around, walking over to where my mother was mid-rant about her abusive, ungrateful daughter. “Ma’am, I need you and your family to step away from the front door immediately,” the deputy instructed, his tone shifting from polite inquiry to official command.
Mom’s jaw dropped. “What? We’re her parents! She let us use her house!”
“The homeowner has explicitly stated on a recorded line that you are unauthorized trespassers and she wants you off her property,” the deputy replied firmly, placing a hand near his utility belt. “Gather your suitcases and move to the public sidewalk right now, or you will be placed under arrest for criminal trespass.” Dad began shouting curses, but the sight of a second backup cruiser pulling into the driveway short-circuited his bravado. Grumbling and shouting threats of lawsuits, the three of them dragged their bags back across the pristine white deck toward Dad’s pickup truck, thoroughly humiliated by the very law enforcement officers they had summoned.
