Chapter 4 - THE SHERIFF’S ARRIVAL

True to their chaotic nature, rather than calling investors at two in the morning, my family had marched down to the local Malibu sheriff’s substation to report that their ungrateful, unstable daughter had locked them out of her rental property. On my security dashboard, I watched two Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputies pull up in a marked cruiser behind Dad’s old Ford pickup truck.
Mom rushed forward waving her arms in an exaggerated display of victimhood, pointing dramatically at the front door while Jessica dabbed at dry eyes. I immediately tapped my intercom button, routed my call directly to the deputy’s radio, and identified myself as the sole deed-holding owner of the property. “Officer, my name is Aurora Vance. I am viewing the live security feed right now. Those three individuals are unauthorized trespassers who forced entry into my private residence using a revoked emergency code while I was out of state. They do not live here, their names are not on the lease or the deed, and I am formally pressing charges for trespassing and breaking and entering.”
