Chapter 14 - RETURNING TO SOUTH BOSTON

Spring arrived in Boston with blooming cherry blossoms and clear blue skies over the harbor. Dante, Ella, and the thriving twins returned to the city, but everything had changed. Dante didn't return Ella to the grueling double shifts at Sullivan’s Diner. Instead, she found herself stepping out of a sleek black town car directly in front of the diner, only to find the old neon sign replaced by a sparkling new marquee. Dante had cleared her entire $84,000 medical debt, established a fully funded trust for her future nursing education, and purchased the deed to Sullivan’s Diner, completely renovating it into a premier, debt-free café where she could finally build her dream.

Standing on the sidewalk in front of the newly christened café, tears welled in Ella’s eyes. She turned to Dante, who stood beside her holding the sleeping twins in a custom carrier.

“You didn't have to do this, Dante,” she choked out, overwhelmed by the gesture.

“I didn't have to save you in the alley either,” he replied, a warm, genuine smile softening his rugged features. “But some things in life are non-negotiable.”

He reached out, his hand cupping her cheek just as he had done in the cabin, pulling her close in front of the bustling South Boston street. Passersby stared at the intimidating syndicate boss looking so tenderly at an ordinary diner waitress, but neither of them cared.
