Chapter 19 - THE EMPTY BOWLOne year later, Noah returned to the same sidewalk.
The brick wall was still there.
The grocery store was still there.
But the sidewalk was different.
There was now a small community center across the street.
Inside, families received free meals.
Children studied.
And no one had to sit outside begging for food.
Lily stood beside Noah.
She was wearing a new pink dress.
But she still carried the same empty bowl.
Noah looked at it.
“Why do you still have that?”
Lily smiled.
“So I never forget.”
“Forget what?”
She looked toward the community center.
“What it felt like to be hungry.”
Then she handed him the bowl.
Inside was a chocolate bar.
Noah laughed.
“You bought that for me?”
