Chapter 9 - The Vow in the Valley

On a magnificent, sun-drenched Saturday in June, our wedding was held on the private ranch grounds of the Carter estate.
Arbors of cascading white gardenias, blooming blush roses, and trailing ivy framed the stone altar overlooking the rolling Texas hills.
Over three hundred of our closest friends, colleagues, hospital surgeons, and staff sat beneath the clear blue sky.
Daisy and Madison served as our flower girls, wearing matching blush-pink tulle dresses, scattering white rose petals with pure, giggling delight. Mason and Michael stood proudly beside Ethan in tailored miniature black tuxedos.
I walked down the grass aisle on the arm of my late husband’s kind brother, wearing a custom-designed off-the-shoulder lace gown with a cathedral veil that caught the warm Texas breeze.
Ethan stood at the altar, looking at me with such profound, unvarnished adoration that my breath caught in my throat.
He took my hands, lifting my veil with infinite gentleness.
"Naomi," Ethan spoke during his vows, his voice clear, strong, and steady. "You walked into my life when it was broken and taught me that real power is found in the courage to love and protect. I vow to honor you, cherish you, stand as your shield, and love you with every beat of my heart for all the days of our lives."

"Ethan," I replied, my voice sweet and resonant. "You gave my daughter a second chance at life and gave my heart a safe, unshakeable home. You showed me that love heals all wounds. I am yours, completely and forever."
When the pastor pronounced us husband and wife, Ethan pulled me into a breathless, passionate kiss beneath the warm sun, while our four children cheered and our guests erupted into thunderous, standing applause.
