Chapter 6 - The Quarry Showdown

At the edge of the limestone quarry, Julian Sterling held the three terrified children at gunpoint inside a rusted maintenance shed.

"Tell Ethan two hundred million in bearer bonds, or his legacy ends today!" Julian shouted to his men.

The engine of my damaged SUV roared as I breached the chain-link gates, ramming the front bumper straight into the kidnappers' getaway vehicle, disabling their exit.

I stumbled out of the car, blood running down my brow, holding an iron tire wrench.

"Let the children go, Julian!" I demanded, stepping between him and the shed.

Julian leveled his revolver at my chest. "You ruined everything, you little parasite!"

Suddenly, the deafening chop of helicopter blades shook the quarry dust.

Ethan Carter descended from a tactical chopper alongside six armed private security operators.

Before Julian could pull the trigger, Ethan tackled him to the gravel with concussive force, disarming the weapon and pinning Julian beneath his boots until the police arrived.

Ethan spun around, dropping to his knees, wrapping his arms around me and his three weeping children in a fierce, breathless embrace.

"Naomi... God, Naomi," Ethan choked out, pressing his lips against my bloody temple, his tears mixing with the dust on my skin. "You saved them. You saved our family."

"We protect our own, Ethan," I whispered, leaning against his chest as the children clutched our hands.
