Chapter 6 - The Fake Belly RevealedGrant stepped down from the altar steps, his face twisting in rage. âYouâre crazy, Hannah! Youâre just bitter because I chose a woman who could give me an heir! Leave now before I have the officers drag you out!â

âAsk the officers who theyâre here for, Grant,â Daniel spoke up from behind me, pulling an official court order from his jacket. âThe sheriffs aren't here for my sister. Theyâre here for you and your mother on charges of felony bank fraud.â
Vivian shrieked in horror. âBank fraud?! Thatâs a lie!â
âLet's talk about lies, shall we?â I stepped closer to Celeste.
Celeste backed away toward the altar railing, her face pale as snow, her hand clutching her gown over her rounded belly.
âOn October 14th,â I announced to the entire four-hundred-person crowd, âGrant stood in my hospital room and called our daughter useless because he needed a son. He claimed Celeste was twelve weeks pregnant with his baby boy.â
I opened the manila envelope, pulling out the certified medical report.
âDocument number one,â I read aloud: âA certified urology report proving that Grant Mercer underwent a permanent vasectomy fourteen months ago. He is physically incapable of fathering a child.â
The courtroom erupted into wild whispers and gasps.
Grant froze, his mouth opening and closing like a fish out of water. He stared at me, then slowly turned his head to look at Celeste. âWhat...? A vasectomy...? Hannah, what are you talking about?!â
âHe didn't tell you, did he, Celeste?â I asked gently. âHe was so embarrassed about his fertility issues that he kept it a secret. Which made your little plan quite unfortunate.â
Celeste took another step back, her heel catching on her wedding veil. She stumbled, losing her balance, and fell backward onto the marble floor with a loud gasp.
