Chapter 5 - The Uninvited GuestThe clicking of high heels against the polished marble aisle shattered the quiet sanctuary.

Four hundred heads turned around simultaneously.

I walked down the center aisle wearing an elegant cream-colored silk dress that fit perfectly, my hair styled in soft waves. In my left arm, I held three-month-old Lily, dressed in a delicate pink lace gown with a matching ribbon.

In my right hand, I held a single, sealed yellow manila envelope.

Walking right behind me was my brother, Daniel, wearing a sharp dark suit, flanked by two uniformed deputy sheriffs.

A collective gasp rippled through the pews. Reporters in the balcony immediately raised their cameras, flashes strobing like lightning across the marble floor.

Vivian stood up from the front pew so fast her diamond necklace clinked against her collar. “Security! Get this woman out of here! How dare she bring that child into this sacred place?!”

Grant’s face drained of every drop of color. He took a step back from the altar, his hands trembling. “Hannah...? What... what are you doing here? You signed the papers!”

I stopped in the middle of the altar space, holding Lily comfortably against my hip, looking straight at Grant, then at Celeste, then at Vivian.

“I signed receipt of service, Grant,” I said, my voice calm, clear, and resonant, carrying effortlessly through the high ceilings of the cathedral. “I didn't sign away my rights. And I certainly didn't sign away my daughter’s inheritance to a fraud.”

Celeste’s eyes widened in panic. She instinctively placed both hands over her rounded stomach. “Grant! Tell her to leave! She’s trying to ruin our special day!”

“I’m not here to ruin your day, Celeste,” I smiled softly. “I’m here to give Grant the truth about the 'son' he threw his real daughter away for.”
