Chapter 2 - The Medical RecordI printed out three copies of the urology clinic’s certified surgical report, sliding them into a yellow manila folder.

Daniel sat across from me at the mahogany dining table in my mother’s house, reviewing the timeline.

“Grant got a vasectomy fourteen months ago,” Daniel noted, tracing his pen down the page. “And Celeste claims she is currently twelve weeks pregnant with his baby boy.”

“Celeste is lying,” I said flatly. “Either she’s pregnant by another man, or she’s not pregnant at all.”

“Does Grant know about the vasectomy records being linked to your shared patient portal?” Daniel asked.

“Grant never managed his own medical portal,” I explained with a quiet laugh. “I handled his appointments, his insurance claims, and his medical bills for six years. He forgot the portal exists.”

Daniel leaned back in his leather chair, a sharp grin touching his lips. “So he genuinely believes he’s the father of a baby boy, and he’s throwing away his entire marriage and your family’s fortune for a lie.”

“It’s worse than that, Daniel,” I said, opening my laptop screen. “When I logged into my family trust’s private asset portal this morning, I noticed Grant attempted to authorize a five-million-dollar commercial loan against the lake estate using a forged power of attorney.”

Daniel’s grin instantly vanished, replaced by a prosecutor’s deadly focus. “He forged your signature?”

“He forged my signature three days after I gave birth,” I revealed. “He used his mother, Vivian, as the notary witness on record.”

Daniel stood up, pulling out his smartphone. “That’s grand larceny, bank fraud, and forgery. I can have a judge freeze his accounts before lunch.”

“No,” I stopped him, holding up my hand. “If you freeze his accounts now, his lawyers will settle out of court, and Vivian will cover for him. I want them to walk down the aisle. I want the high-society press there. I want every investor who put money into Grant’s firm to see what kind of people they are.”

Daniel stared at me for a moment, then let out a low laugh of respect. “How long until their wedding?”

May you like

“Three weeks,” I replied, looking down at Lily sleeping peacefully in her bassinet. “They booked St. Regis Cathedral. Vivian wanted the biggest venue in the city to announce the 'heir.'”

“Then let’s give them a ceremony they’ll never forget.”
