Chapter 9 - The Handcuff VerdictFollowing the conclusion of the criminal trial, Rowan dedicated every moment of his life to earning back the trust of the woman he had wronged.
He sold his Belle Meade mansion, resigning from his high-society club boards, and purchased a magnificent two-hundred-acre organic cattle and timber farm in the quiet hills outside Franklin, Tennessee.
He built a sunlit four-bedroom farmhouse surrounded by blooming wildflower meadows, white wooden fences, and a wide front porch overlooking a crystal-clear creek.
For six months, Rowan lived in a guest cottage on the property, respecting Marenâs boundaries, helping her care for Henry and Luke every single day. He changed diapers, woke up for midnight feedings, cooked meals, and worked the land with his bare hands, learning the true value of humility, labor, and quiet devotion.
Slowly, the deep wounds in Marenâs heart began to heal.
She saw that Rowan was no longer the arrogant, prideful billionaire who cared about country club whispers. He was a father who loved his sons with every breath in his body, and a man who looked at her with unconditional reverence and love.
One warm autumn evening, as the golden sun set over the wildflower meadow, Rowan and Maren sat on the front porch swing, watching one-year-old Henry and Luke giggle as they crawled across a soft wool blanket on the grass.
Rowan reached across the swing, gently taking Marenâs hand in his.
âMaren,â Rowan spoke softly, his deep voice rich with emotion. âI know I can never erase the pain of that dusty road on Old Hillsboro. But I promise to spend every day of the rest of my life making sure you and our boys never feel alone again.â
Maren looked at his calloused hands, then up into his clear, honest eyes, seeing the man she had always known was hidden beneath his old pride.

A warm, radiant smile illuminated her face.
âYou already earned your way back, Rowan,â Maren whispered gently, pressing her hand against his cheek. âWelcome home.â
