Chapter 8 - The Wedding Day ReckoningThree weeks later—on the very day Rowan and Tessa were originally scheduled to be married at the Belle Meade Country Club.

Instead of a lavish wedding, the country club was empty.

At the Nashville Federal Courthouse downtown, Tessa Whitmore sat at the defense table in a dark green prison jumpsuit, her hands handcuffed at her waist, her blonde hair unkempt, weeping hysterically.

Beside her sat Ray Mercer, facing multiple counts of evidence forgery and perjury.

Rowan sat in the front row of the gallery, wearing a dark suit, his posture straight, his face calm and unshakeable.

Beside him sat Maren, wearing an elegant ivory dress, her dark hair falling softly over her shoulders, looking radiant, healthy, and dignified. In her lap, she held baby Henry, while Rowan gently cradled baby Luke in his arms.

The federal judge slammed his gavel down, delivering a scathing judgment from the bench.

“Tessa Whitmore,” the judge declared, his voice echoing through the silent courtroom. “Your calculated, malicious campaign to ruin an innocent woman’s life and commit corporate fraud represents the pinnacle of greed.”

The judge sentenced Tessa Whitmore to twelve years in federal prison without option for early parole, ordering full financial restitution to Maren Ward Bellamy.

Ray Mercer was sentenced to eight years in state prison for his role in the forgery conspiracy.
