Chapter 8 - Cracks in the Second CastleThe trial of State v. Tobenna Okafor & Kingsley Okafor became the biggest national scandal of the year.

The media dubbed it "The Drowned Husband Conspiracy."

During the trial, prosecutors presented unshakeable bank trails showing how Kingsley and Tobenna had laundered the two-hundred-thousand-dollar insurance payout through shell accounts before purchasing commercial properties in Enugu.

In addition, the court declared Tobenna’s second marriage null and void, recognizing me as his sole legal wife and primary beneficiary of his real estate portfolio under marital property laws.

Tobenna sat at the defense table in a green prison jumpsuit, his hair unkempt, his face hollow, weeping as the judge read the thirty-two-page indictment.

He looked over at me in the gallery, begging with his eyes for a shred of mercy.

Obinna looked at the man in the jumpsuit—the man he had prayed for every night—and saw not a hero, but a coward who had traded his family for money.
