Chapter 5 - The Shadow of Chidi NwaforâTobenna...â I spoke, my voice low, clear, and razor-sharp.

His second wife frowned, stepping forward, taking his arm. âChidi...? Who is this woman? Why is she calling you that name?â
Tobennaâs jaw trembled. He couldn't speak. He couldn't move.
I pulled the worn black-and-white photograph from my pocket, holding it up inches from his new wifeâs face.
âTell her my name, Tobenna,â I demanded, looking directly into his terrified eyes. âTell her who I am. Tell her who the eight-year-old boy living in a tin-roof house in Oji is.â
His new wifeânamed Ifeomaâlooked from the photograph to Tobennaâs face. The resemblance was undeniable.
âChidi...â Ifeomaâs voice cracked with rising panic. âWhat is she talking about?! Who is this photo of?!â

âAda... please,â Tobenna finally gasped, his hands shaking as he took a step back toward his store door. âPlease... letâs speak inside... not out here on the street!â
âEight years ago, you left your folded clothes by the Oji River!â I shouted, my voice carrying across the busy commercial street, stopping passersby in their tracks. âYou let me wear black! You let your son grow up believing his father was dead while you lived like a king!â
