The Colonel's Wrath / Chapter 8 / 10

Chapter 8 - The Secret Files of Captain GrantWhile Grant began his sentence at the United States Disciplinary Barracks at Fort Leavenworth, my father’s team discovered a hidden folder on Grant’s personal laptop that changed everything.

I sat in the study of my house, the window open to let in the fresh, summer breeze, while Marcus scrolled through the files.

"He was keeping records, Claire," Marcus said, his voice grave. "Grant was blackmailing two other officers in his battalion. He had evidence of their financial irregularities and was using it to ensure his own rapid promotion."

"Does this mean his sentence will be extended?" I asked.

"Undoubtedly," Marcus nodded. "The military prosecutor is already preparing additional charges of blackmail, extortion, and obstruction of justice. He’s never going to see the outside of a prison wall before he’s fifty."

I looked at a photo of Grant on the screen—smiling, confident, wearing his captain's bars. He had believed he was invincible. He had believed that because I was quiet, I was weak.

"He thought he was a king, Marcus," I said softly.

"A king of a castle made of sand, Claire," Marcus replied, closing the laptop. "And the tide has finally come in."
