The Colonel's Wrath / Chapter 5 / 10

Chapter 5 - Tracing the Siphoned FundsWhile Grant languished in the military brig, my father’s forensic team began systematically dismantling Evelyn’s financial empire.

I sat in Miriam Cole’s downtown Seattle office, a light layer of makeup covering the healing yellow bruises on my neck. Marcus, the forensic accountant, sat across from us, surrounded by stacks of bank statements and corporate filings.

"He was incredibly systematic, Claire," Marcus explained, pointing to a diagram on his tablet. "Grant used his military credentials to bypass standard financial screening, transferring over two hundred thousand dollars from your trust into a dummy corporation registered under Evelyn’s maiden name. From there, the money was funneled into a private real estate venture in Oregon."

"Can we get it back?" I asked, my voice steady and determined.

"Every single cent," Miriam smiled, her eyes sharp. "Since the funds were siphoned through fraudulent means, the court has already issued a freeze on all assets linked to Evelyn’s corporation. We are filing a civil suit to seize the Oregon properties and liquidate them to restore your trust."

"What about Evelyn?" I asked. "She’s still in the county jail?"

"She tried to post bail yesterday," Miriam chuckled. "But the judge denied it after we presented evidence that she was planning to flee to Vancouver. She’s going to remain behind bars until the trial."

I looked out the window, watching the rain wash over the city streets. For the first time in my life, I felt like my father’s daughter. I wasn't just a victim who had survived a nightmare; I was the architect of their destruction.
