Chapter 10 - Rebuilding the FortressSix months later.

The Whispering Pines estate was filled with the sound of a baby’s quiet, rhythmic breathing.

The window was open, carrying the scent of blooming white roses from the garden below.
My father stood in the doorway, wearing his civilian clothes—a soft flannel shirt and jeans—his face relaxed and happy as he looked at his granddaughter.
"She has your mother's eyes, Claire," he said softly, walking over to gently kiss Lily’s forehead.
"She has your strength, Dad," I smiled, leaning my head against his arm.

The estate had been completely transformed. The dark, heavy drapes had been replaced with light, airy linen; the cold, empty rooms were now filled with warmth, music, and the laughter of friends who had returned to my life. The trust had been fully restored, my assets were secure, and the future was bright and limitless.
We had rebuilt the fortress. Not out of stone and mortar, but out of truth, honor, and a love that could never be broken. And as I rocked my daughter to sleep under the protective gaze of her grandfather, I knew that she would grow up knowing exactly what it meant to be a Mercer—strong, protected, and free.
