Chapter 25 - The HearingThree months later. Washington D.C.

The high-arched ceilings of the Senate Hart Building hearing room were packed with hundreds of journalists, military brass, and curious citizens.

I sat at the witness table, dressed in my dark blue civilian airline captain uniform, with Daniel sitting beside me in his immaculate Air Force Service Dress. Across from us sat the panel of senators leading the Special Investigation into Project Trident Watch.

“Captain Miller,” the Senate Committee Chairman spoke into his microphone, his voice echoing through the grand hall. “The evidence presented by your telemetry files has led to the full termination of Project Trident Watch, the arrest of twelve senior defense officials, and the complete audit of all digital flight control systems across civil and military aviation.”

He paused, looking down at the thick stack of documents on his desk.

“This committee owes you and Lieutenant Hayes an apology. For twelve years, the Air Force maintained an official narrative that blamed Lieutenant Ethan Hayes for his own death. Today, this committee officially strikes that finding from the military archives.”

The room erupted into applause. Cameras flashed from every corner.

Daniel reached under the table and squeezed my hand tightly. I looked up at the ceiling, feeling a heavy weight that I had carried for twelve long years finally lift from my chest.
