Chapter 20 - The Wall of SilenceAt 15:00 hours, the emerald green peaks of Oahu rose out of the Pacific Ocean.

“Hickam Tower, this is Military Flight Hercules Five-Four-Zero,” I transmitted over the VHF radio. “Inbound from the west, requesting immediate emergency landing on Runway Zero-Four Left.”
The radio remained silent for several long seconds. Then, a firm, sharp voice came online.
“Hercules Five-Four-Zero, Hickam Tower. Hold your current position immediately. You are entering restricted airspace without an active clearance. Turn heading two-seven-zero or you will be intercepted.”
I grabbed the microphone, my voice cutting like steel. “Hickam Tower, tell General Marcus Cole that Night Fury is on final approach with the Bering File. If he isn't standing on that tarmac when my tires touch down, this recording gets broadcast on open marine emergency channels within two minutes.”
Another pause. This time, a different voice cut through the static—General Cole himself.
“Sarah! You crazy girl, you actually made it.”
“We’re five miles out, General,” I said. “Are the Marines ready?”

“Runway Zero-Four Left is closed to all traffic,” Cole answered grimly. “I have two companies of Marine Corps Security Forces lining the perimeter. But Vance just landed at the main terminal ten minutes ago in a Defense Intelligence transport. He brought federal Marshals with him.”
“Let him bring the military,” I said, slamming the gear lever down. “We’re coming down.”
