Chapter 8 - Packing the BagsMidnight brought an eerie quiet over the grand estate. While Helen slept in her master suite across the hall, Ethan and his wife moved swiftly through the guest quarters, packing suitcases with frantic urgency.

Lily lay sleeping peacefully in the bed, her bandaged hand resting quietly on top of the blanket. Every drawer they closed and every bag they zipped felt like shedding a heavy, suffocating armor.

"Are you sure about this, Ethan?" his wife whispered, her hands shaking as she folded the last of Lily’s clothes. "Leaving means cutting ties with everything... including the inheritance."

Ethan stopped, looking at her with absolute clarity in his eyes. "Inheritance isn't worth our daughter’s soul, or her safety. We’re leaving."
