Chapter 3 - The Unsealed EnvelopeDaniel had spent six long years making sure Abigail never came home, poisoning her reputation within the family after our father passed away.

“Abigail...?” Daniel stammered, his voice cracking as he took an involuntary step backward into the foyer. “What are you doing here? You haven't spoken to Mom in years!”

“I haven't spoken to Mom because you intercepted her mail, blocked my phone number on her landline, and told me she was in memory care!” Abigail fired back, stepping directly into the living room.

Behind her, Arthur Pendelton—the city’s premier trust and estate attorney—stepped inside, setting his leather briefcase onto the glass dining table.

Melissa rushed out from the kitchen, her wine glass nearly spilling onto her silk blouse. “Who are these people?! Daniel, call the police!”

“Please do call the police, Mrs. Vance,” Attorney Pendelton stated smoothly, opening a certified court envelope. “In fact, we have two state police investigators waiting at the end of the street.”

Arthur pulled out an official deed certified by the County Registrar.

“Daniel,” Arthur announced, looking over his spectacles, “you have been claiming this home belongs to you. However, according to the original 2008 warranty deed, this property was purchased exclusively under the Evelyn Vance Revocable Living Trust.”
