Chapter 9 - The Final Stand on the HighwayRealizing the battle was lost, Marcus grabbed the main server suitcase and sprinted toward a secondary armored SUV parked near the back runway exit.
"Daniel! He’s getting away with the core drive!" Olivia yelled.
Daniel sprinted through the smoke, leaping into a high-powered tactical pickup truck. Olivia jumped into the passenger seat before he could object. Daniel slammed on the accelerator, tearing out of the hangar onto the rain-drenched access highway just as Marcus’s SUV sped onto the road.
What followed was a high-speed chase along the slippery coastal highway. Marcus’s driver swerved violently, trying to ram Daniel’s truck off the guardrails into the roaring ocean below.
"Hold on!" Daniel shouted, steering into the drift.
He drew his sidearm, rolled down his window, and shot out the rear right tire of Marcus’s SUV. The armored vehicle blew its tire, fishtailed violently, and flipped onto its side, sliding to a stop across the highway lanes.
Daniel jammed his brakes, bringing their truck to a halt feet away from the wreckage. Smoke poured from the flipped vehicle.
Daniel drew his weapon and approached the driver's side, pulling the crumpled door open. Marcus stumbled out onto the wet asphalt, bruised and bleeding, clutching the server drive. He looked up at Daniel’s cold, unwavering expression and dropped the drive onto the wet ground.

"It's over, Marcus," Olivia said, stepping out of the truck and standing beside Daniel under the heavy rain.
Sirens wailed in the distance as state police cruisers and federal units flooded the highway, bringing an end to the Apex Syndicate’s operation forever.
