SHADOW GUARDIAN / Chapter 10 / 10

Chapter 10 - A Life Worth Fighting ForThree months later.

The sunshine over Blackstone City was bright and clear. Quantum Leap Technologies had successfully launched its revolutionary energy grid project, securing its position as a global leader in clean technology. Marcus Vance and his co-conspirators were serving federal prison sentences.

In Millfield Heights, the quiet brownstone apartment had been replaced by a beautiful, light-filled house near a oak-lined park.

On a warm Saturday afternoon, the backyard was filled with laughter. A barbecue smoked gently near the patio, where Emma and several friends from the school PTA were chatting.

Ava was running across the lush green lawn, wearing a bright pink sundress, chasing a golden retriever puppy that Olivia had surprised her with for her birthday.

Daniel stood by the grill, wearing a simple blue polo shirt and jeans. He looked relaxed, the lingering tension in his shoulders completely gone.

Olivia walked out onto the grass wearing a floral summer dress, two cups of iced tea in her hands. She handed one to Daniel and rested her head gently against his shoulder.

"You look like a man who isn't expecting trouble," she teased softly, smiling up at him.

Daniel wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close. "That’s because trouble knows better than to come around here now."

Ava came running over, her cheeks red from playing, holding her puppy in her arms. "Dad! Olivia! Look, Barnaby learned how to sit!"

"That’s amazing, sweetheart," Olivia laughed, kneeling down to pet the dog. She looked up at Ava with warmth and affection that had grown into a true motherly bond over the past months.

Daniel looked down at the two most important people in his world. He had spent years believing that his only purpose was to fight and survive in the shadows. But standing here in the warm sunlight, holding Olivia’s hand while his daughter’s laughter echoed through the air, Daniel knew he had finally found his home.
