The operative pulled a high-caliber pistol and fired two round bursts. Daniel tackled Olivia behind a heavy steel workbench as bullets sparked off the metal frame. Daniel returned fire with precision, forcing the thief to retreat through an emergency exit toward the underground parking garage.
Daniel and Olivia sprinted after him into the bright glare of the street level. A black SUV skidded to a halt in the middle of a busy downtown intersection, side doors sliding open as armed men opened fire on the crowded sidewalk.
Civilians screamed, diving behind parked cars. Holding her tight against his chest, Daniel drew his firearm and fired three rapid shots, disabling the lead attacker and knocking the driver out through the windshield.
