Chapter 17 - The Emergency InjunctionAt 8:00 AM the following morning, Mark Harrison stood before Judge Rebecca Thorne in the county courthouse, requesting an emergency injunction to freeze all actions by Pinnacle Asset Management.

"Your Honor," Mark argued, pointing to forensic handwriting analysis reports, "the power of attorney document used to convey title was executed illegally. My client never authorized the encumbrance or sale of the Cedar Lake property."

Pinnacle’s attorney countered aggressively. "Your Honor, my client is a bona fide mortgage holder who acted in good faith based on notarized filings. If Mr. Sterling committed fraud, that is a criminal matter between him and the plaintiff, but the debt remains secured by the real estate."

Judge Thorne reviewed the documents in silence, the courtroom echoing with the quiet tick of the wall clock.

"The court finds sufficient evidence of threshold forgery," Judge Thorne ruled, slamming her gavel down. "An immediate stay of eviction and asset liquidation is granted pending a full evidentiary hearing in thirty days. No one enters or alters the property without a court officer present."

Claire let out a breath she felt she had been holding for days. It wasn't a final victory, but the green door remained locked against the bank for now.
