Chapter 8 - THE TEST|

Inside the private library, a fire crackled in the massive stone hearth.

Silas sat behind his heavy desk, the platinum signet ring and Julian’s letter resting on the dark wood between them.

Marcus stood near the window, his eyes fixed on the letter, a heavy expression of grief and disbelief washing over his face.

"It’s his writing," Marcus whispered, his voice thick with emotion. "I’d recognize that slant anywhere. Julian wrote this."

"It doesn't prove the kid is his," Dante argued, pacing near the bookshelf, his arms crossed tightly over his chest. "A signet ring can be stolen. A letter can be forged. For all we know, the girl is some dock worker’s daughter and this maid is running a scam!"

Silas didn't get angry. He simply picked up a leather folder from his drawer and tossed it onto the desk.

"That is a DNA test report," Silas said calmly. "I had Dr. Mercer take a swab from the child three hours ago. He ran an expedited match against Julian’s preserved medical profile from our family clinic."

Dante froze. He slowly reached out, picked up the folder, and flipped to the last page.

The result was bold, clear, and absolute: 99.98% Paternal Probability.

Dante’s jaw clenched so hard his cheek muscles twitched. "This changes everything. The Commission will never accept a three-year-old girl as Julian's primary beneficiary."

"The Commission will do what I tell them to do," Silas said coldly. "And so will you, Dante."

"And what about Isabella?" Marcus asked, stepping away from the window. "She’s already calling her contacts in the Genovese family. She feels threatened."

Silas’s gray eyes turned into ice. "If Isabella touches one hair on my granddaughter's head... I will bury her beneath the rose garden myself."
