Chapter 15 - THE AMBUSH AT THE GATE|

Night fell over the Hudson Valley like an ink stain, bringing a thick, impenetrable fog that rolled off the river and swallowed the twelve-acre estate.
At ten o'clock, a convoy of three dark sedans pulled up to the outer iron gates.
The guard inside the gatehouse stepped out, holding a flashlight, tapping on the lead car’s tinted window. "State your name."
The window rolled down three inches. The dark barrel of a suppressed pistol extended through the gap.
Phft. Phft.
The guard collapsed silently into the wet grass.
Inside the lead car, Dante sat in the passenger seat, his face illuminated by the dim dashboard lights. Beside him sat Frankie Genovese—the underboss of their deadliest rival family.
"Your father's security team is stationed at the main house," Dante said coldly, checking the magazine of his tactical handgun. "The rear entrance near the rose garden only has two men."
Frankie Genovese chuckled softly, patting a heavy tactical rifle resting on his lap. "You're a ruthless bastard, Dante. Selling out your own father and brother for control of the docks."
"They chose a maid's brat over me," Dante spat, his eyes filled with pure hatred. "When this night is over, Marcus and the kid will be dead, and Father will have no choice but to name me the sole heir."
"And the girl's mother?" Frankie asked with a cruel grin.

"Do whatever you want with her," Dante sneered. "Just make sure she doesn't leave this estate alive."
The three cars drove slowly through the open gates, their headlights turned off, disappearing into the thick, swirling fog.
