Chapter 14 - THE RIFT|

The conference room descended into absolute chaos.
"Sit down, Dante!" Marcus ordered, standing up to meet his brother's rage.
"Don't tell me what to do, Marcus!" Dante snarled, pointing a finger at his brother’s face. "You’ve been eyeing those docks for years! You used this maid to manipulate Father into stripping my power!"
"Enough!" Silas’s voice boomed through the room, cutting through the shouting like a cannon shot.
Dante glared at his father, his chest heaving with unrestrained fury. "You're old, Silas. You're letting sentimentality blind you. A girl cannot lead this family! The Genovese will tear us apart the moment they sense weakness!"
"The choice is made, Dante," Silas said, his eyes cold and dangerous. "If you cannot respect my decision, you can step down from your seat at this table."
Dante stared at his father for five terrifying seconds. Then, a cold, sickening smile spread across his lips.
"Fine," Dante whispered softly. "Have it your way, Father."
He turned on his heel and stormed out of the study, slamming the heavy mahogany doors behind him with enough force to rattle the glass chandeliers.
Lily flinched at the loud noise, burying her face into Rosa’s dress.
Marcus walked over immediately, dropping to one knee beside Lily, offering her a reassuring smile. "It's okay, little one. Just a loud door."

Silas looked toward the closed doors, his jaw set tight, a dark foreboding settling over his heart. He knew his youngest son too well.
Dante hadn't surrendered. He had simply declared war.
