Chapter 15 - The Massacre in the Ballroom

|
At the exact moment the steel shutters slammed down in the study, all hell broke loose in the grand ballroom.
Ivan Sokolov, realizing Dante was no longer at the head table, drew his suppressed handgun and shouted a command in Russian. His assassins raised their weapons to execute the Moretti capos.
But Silvio was faster.
"Now!" Silvio roared.
The heavy canvas drapes covering the ballroom's balconies suddenly dropped. Forty of Dante’s elite hitters, armed with automatic submachine guns, appeared on the high ground, completely surrounding the Bratva operatives.
Before Ivan could even pull the trigger, a devastating hail of gunfire erupted from the balconies.
The Bratva hitmen were cut down in seconds, their bodies collapsing onto the polished dance floor in a spray of blood and shattered crystal. The wealthy guests screamed in absolute terror, diving under the banquet tables, covering their heads as the deafening roar of automatic weapons filled the enclosed space.
Ivan Sokolov took two bullets to the chest. He staggered backward, his expensive tuxedo ruined, blood bubbling from his lips. He fell hard onto the mahogany bar, gasping for air, staring up at the ceiling in shock.
Silvio walked slowly across the ballroom, stepping over the dead assassins. He approached the dying Russian boss, his face a mask of grim satisfaction.
"You came into our house, Ivan," Silvio said coldly, looking down at the bleeding man. "You thought you could steal our crown."
Silvio raised his heavy revolver, aiming it directly at Ivan's head.
"The Morettis send their regards," Silvio whispered, and pulled the trigger.
The ballroom fell into a terrifying, ringing silence, broken only by the whimpering of the terrified guests hiding under the tables. The massacre was over in less than sixty seconds. The Bratva leadership on the East Coast had been entirely wiped out in a single, perfectly orchestrated counter-ambush.

Silvio keyed his radio. "Boss. The ballroom is clear. The trash has been taken out."
"Copy," Dante's voice crackled coldly over the earpiece. "Secure the perimeter. I am finishing up in the study."
