Chapter 9 - The True Family Garden

Two years later, golden late-afternoon sunlight poured over the rolling gardens of my Boulder estate.

The stone terrace was alive with the sweet scent of blooming lavender, heirloom roses, and fresh mountain pine. On the wide green lawn, two-year-old Hope was running with pure, boundless energy, giggling as she chased a playful golden retriever puppy through the grass.

Sitting beside me on the teak patio bench was Liam Reynolds—a brilliant pediatric trauma physician and childhood advocacy director whom I had met through our charitable foundation work. Liam was gentle, patient, and deeply grounded. He loved Hope with a fierce, tender devotion that filled our home with warmth and laughter.

"Look at her go," Liam smiled, handing me a mug of hot spiced cider and gently resting his hand over mine. "She’s got your speed, Claire."

"And your boundless curiosity," I smiled, leaning my head against his strong shoulder.

Hope came running up the stone steps, holding up a bright yellow dandelion she had plucked from the lawn, placing it proudly into Liam's lap before climbing into my arms.

"For Mommy!" Hope cheered, kissing my cheek with sticky, sweet baby lips.

I held my daughter tight against my chest, breathing in the fresh mountain air, feeling the steady, rhythmic beat of her heart against mine.
