Chapter 4 - The Eviction at Noon

At 11:30 AM, Diane and Brooke were still inside the penthouse, attempting to clean up the shattered dinner plates and wine stains from the living room floor.
"When Ryan gets out on bail, he is going to put that ungrateful bitch in her place!" Diane raged, scrubbing at the wine-stained carpet with a damp towel. "She ruined our New Year's Eve! She embarrassed Grant in front of the building staff!"
"I'm going to post the video of her throwing the table on social media," Brooke sneered, holding her phone. "We'll show the world how unhinged she is."
Before Brooke could unlock her phone, the private elevator chimed.
The doors opened, and four armed Denver County Sheriff deputies stepped out into the foyer, accompanied by Arthur Vance and two private building locksmiths.
"What is the meaning of this?!" Diane shrieked, dropping her towel. "You cannot enter my son's private residence!"
Deputy Miller stepped forward, holding out a certified emergency writ of eviction and a temporary domestic violence protective order.
"Mrs. Diane Bennett," Deputy Miller announced. "This property is registered solely under the legal ownership of Claire Bennett. Pursuant to an emergency protective order issued by Judge Morrison at 0900 hours, you and your daughter have thirty minutes to collect your personal clothing and vacate the premises."
"This is an outrage!" Brooke screamed. "My brother owns half of everything she has!"

"Your brother signed a prenuptial agreement waiving all claims to pre-marital real estate, Miss Bennett," Arthur Vance stated, stepping into the room with crisp legal authority. "Furthermore, the commercial accounts funding your boutique and the luxury vehicles parked in the garage have been frozen under court order. Locksmiths, begin changing the digital access codes."
While neighbors on the forty-second floor watched from their doorways, Diane and Brooke were escorted out of the building with their designer suitcases, leaving them stranded on the snowy sidewalk with zero access to the luxury accounts they had abused for years.
