Chapter 16 - The Sisters’ Betrayal

Holed up in a cramped, dreary two-bedroom motel on the outskirts of the city, the tension inside the room reached a boiling point.

"This is all your fault, Mother!" Chloe screamed, throwing a plastic water bottle against the motel wall. "You told us we were better than everyone else! You told us a billionaire was guaranteed to fall at our feet while you treated Vada like dirt!"

"If you hadn't spent every dime of the maintenance fund on your stupid European shopping sprees, we wouldn't be sleeping in a motel right now!" Megan yelled, joining in the bitter recrimination.

"Quiet! All of you, quiet!" Eleanor sobbed, clutching her head in her hands as she sat on the sagging mattress. "I did it all for this family! I secured our future!"

"No, you secured our destruction," Brittany whispered bitterly from the corner of the room, her eyes cold and dead. "And the worst part is... Vada warned us. She tried to save us, and you threw her out."

The crushing weight of their collective betrayal settled over the room like a physical shroud, leaving Eleanor completely alone in her misery.
