Chapter 8 - The Rejected Proposals

While Truett and Vada conversed in the quiet seclusion of the west wing, out in the rose gardens, the grand performance was reaching its awkward climax.
Chloe and Megan had spent over an hour striking poses beside the white marble fountain, waiting for Truett to emerge from the main entrance. When the front doors finally swung open, Eleanor marched out with a radiant smile, expecting to see the billionaire walking arm-in-arm with one of her daughters.
Instead, Truett stepped out alone, buttoning the cuffs of his shirt with an expression of cold, professional detachment.
"Mr. Barlow! There you are!" Eleanor exclaimed, rushing forward with open arms. "Did you enjoy the gardens? I must say, Chloe has developed a wonderful passion for estate management—"
"Save your breath, Mrs. Kinnard," Truett interrupted, his voice cutting through the garden air like a blade of ice.
Eleanor stopped dead in her tracks, her smile faltering. "Pardon me?"
"I have spent the last hour touring the true heartbeat of this property," Truett said, his eyes sweeping coldly over Eleanor, Chloe, and Megan. "And I have seen enough to realize that this household is built entirely on deception, financial mismanagement, and hollow pretension."
Chloe gasped, clutching her pearls in horror. "Mr. Barlow, what are you saying?"

"I am saying your proposals, your performances, and your social games hold zero value in the real world," Truett stated unequivocally. "You lack substance, operational integrity, and basic honesty. Consider this my official farewell to Meadowlark Hall."
Without waiting for another word, Truett turned sharply on his heel, descended the stone steps toward his waiting black sedan, and sped down the driveway, leaving the Kinnard family paralyzed in absolute shock.
