Special Agent Reyes from the Federal Bureau of Investigation walked down the center aisle, flanked by eight armed federal operators and two uniformed police officers.
âETHAN VANCE! VANESSA COLE! STAY WHERE YOU ARE!â Agent Reyesâs voice echoed like thunder across the room.
Ethan backed up against the edge of the stage, looking around like a cornered animal. âMr. Hartwell! Please! Tell them this is a mistake! I worked ten years for this company!â
Arthur Hartwell stood up from his table, leaning on his walking stick, his face cold as marble.
âYou didn't work for this company, Ethan,â Mr. Hartwell said flatly. âYou bled it. And you brutalized the lead compliance officer I personally hired to protect it.â
Agent Reyes stepped onto the stage, pulling a pair of heavy steel handcuffs from his tactical vest.
âEthan Vance,â Agent Reyes announced, grabbing Ethanâs arm and pinning him against the podium console. âYou are under arrest for federal wire fraud, corporate embezzlement, aggravated assault, and witness intimidation.â

The sharp click-clack of the steel handcuffs snapping tightly around Ethanâs wrists resonated loudly through the silent ballroom speakers.
Vanessa screamed as two federal agents stepped up to the head table, pulling her hands behind her back and cuffing her in her red silk dress.
