Chapter 2 - The Cloud FilesFor the next two weeks, I became invisible.

I checked out of the hospital using a side exit, moved into a secure apartment booked under a corporate retainer, and stopped answering Ethanâs frantic texts.
Believing I was cowering in shame, Ethan and his mother shifted their narrative to high-society circles. At dinner parties, Diane subtly dropped hints that I was "having a psychological breakdown" and that Ethan had generously offered to pay for my treatment.
Meanwhile, my forensic team worked eighteen-hour days.
âLook at this wire trail, Maya,â my lead technical investigator, Marcus, pointed to his screen in our war room. âEthan wasn't just stealing company money. He and Vanessa were setting up a private offshore shell company in the Cayman Islands registered under your forged name.â
I leaned over his shoulder, studying the digital paper trail. âHe planned to transfer the four million dollars on the night of Hartwell Dynamicsâ 25th Anniversary Gala.â
âAnd frame you as the insider who authorized the wire,â Marcus added. âIf the federal auditors came knocking, Ethan would look like the heartbroken executive whose unstable ex-girlfriend robbed his firm.â
A cold, razor-sharp smile touched my lips.
âSo he thinks heâs framing me on the night of his biggest corporate celebration,â I murmured.

âWhatâs the play?â Marcus asked.
âWe let him set up the projector,â I said. âHeâs running the presentation screen at the gala himself. Iâm going to make sure every board member, federal regulator, and news reporter in the state sees his work in 4K resolution.â
