Chapter 4 - The Gala of MirrorsThe grand ballroom of the Grand Harbor Hotel was a sea of black tuxedos, glittering diamond necklaces, and flowing champagne.

At the head table sat Ethan Vance, wearing a tailored tuxedo, a diamond watch, and an arrogant smile that reached his eyes. Beside him sat Vanessa Cole in a red silk gown, sipping champagne, while his mother, Diane, held court with the wives of major corporate investors.
âEthan has worked so hard for this company,â Diane boasted to a senatorâs wife. âHeâs transformed the operations department completely.â
Ethan checked his watch. It was 8:30 PM.
In ten minutes, the main presentation was scheduled to begin. Ethan was slated to take the stage, deliver the keynote speech, and receive his formal appointment as COO from the board of directors.
On the massive sixty-foot LED screen behind the main stage, a placeholder slide displayed the company logo: HARTWELL DYNAMICS â 25 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE.
Ethan stood up, adjusting his bow tie, and walked toward the stage to applause from the room.
âLadies and gentlemen,â the master of ceremonies announced over the loudspeakers. âPlease welcome our Vice President of Operations, Mr. Ethan Vance!â
Ethan stepped up to the podium, basking in the spotlight, holding his hands up to acknowledge the crowd.

âThank you,â Ethan smiled into the microphone, his voice smooth and polished. âTonight, we don't just celebrate twenty-five years of innovation. We celebrate a future built on trust, integrity, and absolute dedication to excellenceââ
Before he could finish his sentence, the heavy side doors of the ballroom swung open.
