Chapter 8 - The Matriarch’s Downfall

The chapel erupted into chaotic whispers. High-society matrons who had fawned over Evelyn just minutes ago now backed away from her in their pews, whispering behind their diamond-adorned hands. The social armor Evelyn had spent decades constructing around her name was shattering into dust right before her eyes.

“It’s not a deepfake, Evelyn,” I said into the microphone, my voice ringing out with cold, absolute authority as I stepped away from Adrian and faced the congregation. “That is the high-definition footage from my private security camera. Your security override code didn’t work on the battery-powered backup lens.”

Evelyn looked around the chapel, realizing that every single alleyway of escape had been blocked. Her prestigious friends were deliberately turning their backs, avoiding her frantic gaze. The wealthy investors in the back rows were shaking their heads in disgust, realizing that a woman capable of sabotaging a wedding dress and manipulating corporate trusts was a massive liability to any business partnership.

“Adrian!” Evelyn cried out, her voice dropping into a pathetic, desperate plea as she looked toward the altar. “You cannot believe this! I am your mother! I raised you after your father fell ill! You owe me everything!”

Adrian remained frozen at the altar. His jaw was clenched so tightly a muscle ticked violently in his cheek. He didn't look at his mother with sorrow or confusion anymore; his eyes were cold, dark, and filled with a terrifying, profound betrayal.
