Chapter 6 - The Altar Whisper

Adrian frowned, turning his full attention back to me. The confusion in his eyes was palpable, mixed with a sudden, sharp spike of anxiety. “Claire, what are you talking about? What does my mother have to do with your dress?”

Instead of speaking into the microphone, I stepped closer, leaning up on my tiptoes until my lips were resting directly against his ear. The scent of his cologne—expensive sandalwood and cedar—mingled with the heavy tension in the air.

“Your mother didn’t just ruin my dress because she hates me, Adrian,” I whispered, keeping my voice low, cold, and steady. “She ruined it because she thought it would break me enough to make you sign the amended trust papers this afternoon. She has been systematically siphoning millions from Harrow Hospitality behind your back, and she needed your signature to cover her tracks.”

Adrian stiffened instantly. The color drained from his face so fast he looked as though he had been physically struck in the chest. His grip on my hands tightened until my knuckles ached.

“What... what did you just say?” Adrian breathed out, his voice cracking with disbelief.

“Look at the third-row monitor,” I whispered back, pulling a small remote control from the hidden pocket of my dress. “And watch who really belongs on trial today.”

Before Adrian could demand an explanation, I clicked the button.
