Chapter 3 - The Emergency CallI didn't hesitate.

Using every ounce of strength in my body, I threw a heavy glass vase off the counter, smashing it against the floor at Vanessa’s feet!

Vanessa shrieked, stepping back into the shattered glass, dropping the syringe onto the rug!

I lunged past her, threw open the front door, and collapsed onto the front lawn, screaming for help into the quiet suburban night!

“HELP! CALL 911! MY BABY!”

Our neighbor, Mr. Henderson—a retired police sergeant—rushed out of his house with a flashlight, seeing me lying on the grass in active labor while Vanessa tried to pull me back inside by my arms!

“Get away from her!” Mr. Henderson roared, running across the driveway with his phone already connected to emergency dispatch!

Vanessa panicked, dropped her folder, sprinted to her car, and sped away into the darkness!

Within seven minutes, an ambulance and three police cruisers screeched to a halt in front of my house. Paramedics rushed me onto a gurney, administering IV fluids to slow my premature contractions while two officers collected the dropped legal folder and shattered syringe from my foyer.
